Helloooo everybody!! This week has been pretty average but a good one! So let's get started!

Monday: For P day Sister Nelson and I went out for lunch at the Asian Grill buffet and then we went and got our nails done. It was sooo fun. That night I packed for exchanges and we met the Sister Training Leaders (STL) halfway to Toledo. When I got to their apartment I forgot what a real kitchen looked like. Their apartment is nice. Me and Sister Fenton stayed up late just talking. It was a fun time.

Tuesday: After all of our studies, Sister Fenton and I went out to lunch at this place called Piada Italian street food. It's legit a Costa Vida but for Italian food. It was so good. After that, we went and met with their friend Eunice. Eunice is an 84-year-old woman that is getting baptized this Saturday!! She is just the sweetest lady ever and she has the strongest testimony!! I also met some people from their ward named the Borns. They have a 37-year-old daughter that got hit by a drunk driver when she was 5 years old and she was in a coma for 4 1/2 months. She is the cutest! As we were getting ready to leave, she got up and gave me and Sister Fenton a picture she had colored for us. That night we made the BEST chocolate chip cookies I have ever had. It was just the best time ever and I love Sister Fenton!!

Wednesday: We drove back to Tiffin and we all went to District Council. The district leader gave a lesson that involved us playing with eggs outside and then Elder Parry gave us a huge bag of chick-fil-a chicken. That night while knocking on doors, pretty much everyone we met were Pagan or just not nice, but it was a fun time lol.

Thursday: One of my and Sister Nelson's favorite thing to do is explain movies to each other that neither of us has seen, so we did that while we did service.  It was so much fun because Sister Nelson acts out the movie scene by scene and it's so funny. It was my mom's birthday and I got to facetime her!! Other than that, it was a pretty average day.

Friday: We went and got air put into our tires and that didn't take nearly as long as we thought it was going.  So, we went to visit one of our friends but they weren't home so we knocked on doors around his house. We ended up meeting this really nice lady named Francis. When she answered the door I did the standard door approach and she just stared at me for a solid 30 seconds.  She then said "you're making me second guess", we didn't know what she meant by that but she invited us to visit her whenever.  We're hoping we can teach her!! That night we taught our friend Alex and while we were standing outside with him, this girl walked past us, and then she hesitated, turned around, and asked what we were talking about. She had tattoos and piercings and I didn't think anything of it.   Then she said she is a member of the church and asked where and when we go to church because she wasn't able to find it!! She was so cool!

Saturday: It was a Fostoria day so we had a lesson with Kyla and then we headed to the Clouse's. We ended up moving an entire 8 ft Christmas tree up 3 flights of stairs to their attic and it was eventful. That night we were driving home and we were stopped at a red light. Sister Nelson just randomly ran the red light after we had been sitting there.  I was really confused and she couldn't tell me why she did it hahaha. We laughed for the rest of the night because of that!!

Sunday: We went to Perrysburg for stake conference and while I was talking to people, a lady came up to me, and turns out she is the mom of one of my best friends from college! So shout out to Katie, Kennedy, and Garret (if you read this) I took a picture with them and it was so fun meeting them!! Also right before the session started, I was walking around and I saw a guy that served in Elko when I was in middle school. His name was Elder Knight and he was over at my house for dinner many times. It was crazy to see him but soooo fun. That night I dyed our friend Amy's hair blue so it was a pretty eventful day.

Helloooo everybody!! This week has flown by and it was so fun so let's start at the beginning.

Monday: For p day we went to Findlay which is the district leader's area and it's about 45 minutes away. I had thought that it was about the same size as Tiffin but right as we got there we knew it was boujee ahaha. Thye have an Olive garden, Chik-fa-la, kohls, tj max, and a sephora plus A LOT of other things. They are livin nice over there. Anyway, we went to Chick-fil-a for lunch and it was soooo good I hadn't been there in forever! Then we went thrifting. It was a solid day.

Tuesday: Tuesday was a way chill day. We did some service at a womens shelter. They had us just shred the papers they didn't need from 1998. The rest of the day was just normal missionary stuff that I can't remember because I have been awful at journaling the past 2 weeks. I need to improve on that.

Wednesday: There are these mentoring sessions we have to do because I am a new missionary and we signed up for one over zoom with this Italian guy. He had a really thick accent and during our meeting, Sister Nelson started coughing because she chocked on something. The guy asked "are you sick?" and she heard "are you safe?" so she said yes! We talked about it afterwards and we thought it was so funny we've been asking each other if we are safe anytime we cough or sneeze. We had our first apartment inspection so we DEEP CLEANED the apartment. Let's just say I don't think the apartment has been cleaned in a looooong time. There were things I found I don't even want to talk about because I feel the spirit leave my body when I think about it  That night this member family named the Watts that was just visiting took us out to dinner to this Asian buffet and it was realy good. The family was so nice and they asked us to come over to the Airbnb the next night for a spiritual thought. Later we started teaching this new guy named Alex! He's been in contact with missionaries for a while but never taught. He told us he wants to be a missionary so we said he had to get baptized for that and he said he hated water but he'll do it!! He was going to come to church but he had to go to the hospital because his stitches popped from a surgery he just had. So everyone pray for Alex pls!

Thursday: We had another zoom meeting for new missionaries and this one has a bunch of other missionaries from all over. As I joined the call, I was just looking through who was on it and I saw 2 elders from my MTC district!! Elder Cleverly and Elder Murray! #shoutout. Anyway, that night we went back to the Watts and talked with them and it was so fun. As we were leaving, they gave us 2 FULL grocery bags of food! It was so nice. When we got home, there was a package for me from my sister and it was the best! One of the highlights of my week!! That night we had a zoom with the entire mission called "Why I Believe" and there were 3 people that shared their conversion stories and why they believe in Christ. It was really cool.

Friday: I went to my first zone conference!! We had to leave our apartment at 7:30 in order to get there on time. Once we got to Parrysburg, we got to the church and I met sooo many new people. I met all the sisters in the zone plus another and they are the best. As ZC was starting, one of the A.Ps was announcing and he said "Sister Welch is going to give the opening prayer" My head shot up because I didn't know that was happening. He just laughed and so after the opening song, I had to basically climb over all these elders to get the pulpit. And because my feet are gigantic, I tripped over all of their feet and it was just embarassing but I got through it lolol. We had one activity where the STLs asked if we liked spicy food and whoever did to come up to the front. Even though I like spicy food I didn't go up because I didn't feel like getting heart burn ahaha. There's an elder in my district named Elder Parry and he is just insane. He HATES spice but started saying to our whole district who can't stand it, "I'll go up if you go up" so obviously we all went up and they gave us a jalepeno and a grape and told us to eat them at the same time. I did and the spice wasn't bad at all. Elder Parry however, had it in his mouth for about .2 seconds and ran to the trash can to spit it out. It was hilarious. Elder Ashworth was struggling with the spice and he was sniffling still dying like 20 minutes later ahahaha. At one point he turned around and asked how we were holding up and I and Sister Nelson were both fine so we asked if he was ok lolol funny times. It was sooo nice to be around other missionaries and get a spiritual recharge. We talked a lot about assuming you're inspired and following promptings from the spirit. It was sooo good and I learned a lot. On our way back we went to chick-fa-la there and the cashier paid for our milkshakes!! come to find out she is a member and is just the sweetest lady. As we were leaving, a man named Ron stopped us and asked if we were Latter-day saints. He said he was from Vegas and all of his neighbors were members. He was so nice and I told him I was from Nevada so we bonded over that. Too bad he doesn't live in our area.

Saturday: This day was by far the slowest. It was Fostoria day and we were going to go over to this old lady's house fro 2 hours worth of service. We literally scheduled it right in front of her and she told us we came on the wrong day so there went 2 hours in our schedule we had to fill. We had a lesson on 3:30 and they bailed on us too. Our whole schedule got wiped and that's never fun. As we were driving back to Tiffin a huge rain storm started and it had been down pouring for 2 days straight.

Sunday: When we got to church we sat behind Praylyn (the girl who just got baptized) and her brother Preston who isn't a member. He turned around and told us that he wants to take the lessons and be baptized!! We are so excited about that. I and Sister Nelson had to give talks in church and it wasn't too bad. My topic was on finding peace in troubled times. That was perfect because everyone we talk to is going through a troubled time and I have definitely had my share and they're definitely not stopping lol. As I was writing it, I learned a lot and turning to the Savior is the most important thing. He will always support us through our trials if we turn to him. While he won't take the trial or trouble away, he will make it a little easier to get through. He will provide that peace and comfort we need in those times. I just love that. That night we went to a members house for dinner. Their names are the Padula's. They live20 minutes away and neither of us had been to their house. All we knew about it was that it was a big house. We pulled up and we were shocked. The best way to describe it was if any of you have seen pride and prejudice it fulfilled all dreams I have of living like that. Literally the best. As sister Padula was giving us a tour her husband who is a pastor for 2 other churches was cooking dinner and she told us he's 100% Italian so I immediatley knew the food was going to be good. My predictions were so right. He made 2 whole chickens, this garlicky pasta, corn on the cob, salad, AND homemade ranch. If you know me, you know I love homemade ranch. I absolutely LOVE this family. They are so funny and sweet and me and sister Nelson both had like 7ths. Needless to say we were definitely fat and happy hehehe. After dinner they gave us brownies and they kept asking if we really had to leave. It's so nice when people actually want to talk to us ahahha. Anyway we had a really good discussion with the Pastor about out favorite scriptures and he pulled out his own quad of the bible, book of mormon, d&c, and pearl of great price. He told us he watches the chruch movies all the time and he loves it. We watched a few of the church videos with them and we felt the spirit so strongly it was amazing. As we were leaving the wife asked how often we can come back and we literally said as often as they want haha. It was the best meal I've had here by far.
Anyway, I love all of you so much and I'm so grateful for your love and support!!

Trust in the Lord<3

Sister Welch

Hellooo everyone!! I have kind of fallen back on journaling this week so let's see if I can remember everything ahaha. Also sorry if this is kind of long. Soooo many things happened.

Monday: On p-day this past week we had a district activity which we can have once a month so we all went out to lunch and played games and it was super fun. After the district activity me and sister Nelson and went to get ice cream and it was soooo good! We haven't stopped thinking about it all week but it was kind of pricy so we haven't gone back. That night we did a "cookie drop" at some of our friend's houses and it was pretty fun.

Tuesday: We call Tuesdays our "Fostoria days." Fostoria is one of the neighboring towns that are in our area. It's about 30ish minutes away. We started off by doing some service by just shredding a bunch of papers and sister Nelson had never shredded paper before so she got hers jammed super bad. It took her like 15 minutes just to fix it. I thought that was pretty funny. We then visited our friends Renee and Dennis and read a scripture with them and invited them to church and Renee said she wanted to come! It's always exciting when people say that. After that we went to a less active member's house the Clouse's. The husband is a professional piano player and he's crazyyyy talented. The wife is a legit opera singer. When we got there, they just played music for us the whole time and even let me play the piano while he accompanied me on the organ. It was so fun. They also just got a puppy Bernice mountain dog named Koda and he's so cute.

Wednesday: We had district council and the topic was on referrals. Because we are in a smaller area we don't really get referrals. I have never seen a referral come. We talked about what we should do when we receive a referral and to always seek and expect miracles. We had that phrase in our brains all day and later that night WE GOT A REFERRAL!! We contacted them immediately but I was looking at their address and they didn't even live in our mission boundaries so we had to send them to the mission over which was disappointing but we were still seeking and expecting miracles. After district council, we went to this cute little crepe shop and it was sooo good. I just love food. Later that night we went to our friend Bruce's house and read some scriptures and he told us he was coming to church so we were excited.

Thursday: We went and visited our friend Ana while she was babysitting her friend's kids and I thought the first time I was going to get called a bad name would be by an adult but it turns out it was a 3-year-old girl. She randomly looked at me and sister Nelson and called us not a nice name hehe. Tbh it made me giggle. We then went and did some service and we just stamped a BUNCH of boxes. We went to a member's house, the Richards, for dinner and it was this couple that is in their 80s. They are so old but I love them. Brother Richards literally can't hear pretty much at all and he just is so patient. Sister Richards LOVES to talk with her hands and while she was talking, I noticed that she's missing her whole pinky finger. I've found that that is quite common here for some reason. Most people are either missing a toe, finger, or all their teeth.

Friday: This day was insane. We had to go get the oil changed in our car as well as a tire rotation. While we were waiting, we just walked around Lowes. We just looked at the refrigerators and people looked at us funny. But as a missionary, you get used to it. That's pretty common. That night we decided to ride our bikes around town. I haven't ridden a bike since I was like 10 so I was a little nervous. We gave a book of Mormon to this guy named Charlie and he started yelling at my comp because she told him she respected him ahaha. It was very interesting. As we were riding home, we were going down a pretty big hill and we were going faassstt. Sister Nelson was in front of me and I was right behind her. We were passing houses and in between 2 houses there was a small ally. Right as sister Nelson was about to sail through it, this huge black truck comes barreling out of there and almost took my companion out. She stopped so abruptly that her tires screached and I had to swerve out of the way so I didn't hit her. As I'm writing this I am still laughing about it ahaha.

Saturday: Saturdays are another Fostoria day for us so we visited every one we did on Tuesday plus some. Before we went to one of their houses, my comp said "let me tell you something about them." She then continued to tell me that the lady used to be a stripper and has had run-ins with the law because she has a problem with stealing. She then told me that the guy has killed a man!! Mind you this was like the third or fourth time I had met with them so that was fun to learn about. While we were there, their granddaughter Kyla came out and told us she wants to be a missionary and that she wanted to come to church!

Sunday: We were expecting 4 of our friends to come to church with us so when we got there Renee and Kyla showed up. We were waiting on Chico and Bruce but Chico said he woke up with a migraine so he didn't come. The senior couple offered to give Bruce a ride since they live close to him. When they showed up. they didn't have Bruce. We were really confused and then Elder Baldwin came up to us and said he went up to his door, Bruce's sister answered and told him that Bruce went to jail on Friday!! What the heck! Anyway, after church, we knocked on some doors and it was a really fun day.

I am growing to love being a missionary! While there are hard days (and there are going to be a lot more) I just keep getting excited for the experiences I am going to have. Even the 99% of the work is rejection, that 1% that accepts it makes you forget about all the rejection. I LOVE this gospel and it has brought so much joy and comfort into my life! I hope you all have an amazing week!

Trust in the Lord
Love,
Sister Welch

 Hellooo!!

A lot of things happen in a week so let's start at the beginning...

Monday: After p-day ended on Monday we decided to go out knocking doors for the first time. I was so nervous I wanted to die. My companion Sister Nelson pulled over on a random street and asked me how it looked and I said it looke good. We walked up to the house closest to us and knocked and literally the FIRST house we knock this lady named Tiff answers and we start small talk and evenutally get to why we were there. She stops us and explains how crazy it is we were there because she has been going through some stuff and questioning her own faith. She said she definitely is taking us stopping by as a sign from God so we got her number and have tried texting her but nothing has happened yet. After talking with her we asked what houses we should knock on her street and she said definitely not the next 2 but we didn't listen and knocked on them anyway and we ended up getting both of their numbers too ahaha. We thought that was really cool.

Tuesday:
We went over to the branch presidents house he him and his wife fed us pulled pork sandwiches, chopped fruit, and chips and it was by far one of the best meals I've had here. We had to go get the car an estimate for a minor scratch on the bumper and it's almost $900!! That was just insane to us!! After that we went over to the family that we did service for last week and we just talked with them and they are having a lot of tender mercies rolling in we are just working on helping them recognize them. By no means are their trials gone at all but it definitely is an improvement. We got 2 more phone numbers that night from knocking so that's good. Once we got home, we were just hanging out and we looke out the screen door and there was just a skunk walking around. My comp went right outside trying to look at it and I was sooo scared it was going to spray us but it didn't THANKFULLY.

Wednesday:
I had my first District Council and it was really fun! I love being around other missionaries because we are all here for the same reasons. There was a heat advisory and we had members calling us to tell us not to go outside because it was so hot. It was for sure the most humid day I've felt here and in my entire life. We went over to a members house and just visited with them and it felt good because they were BLASTING the A.C. man am I grateful for air conditioning. That night we went to a Relief Society game night and it was super fun! We just love hanging out with old ladies lolol.

Thursday:
I hit my month mark. It felt really weird because when I think aoubt it, July was the longest yet shortest month of my life. I went through so many different changes from being at home, to the MTC, to Ohio. Just crazy but it also kind of feels like it 's flown by. We did some service and then we decided to go out to celebrate my "mission birthday" and we chose this Mexcian restaraunt called Casa Express and it was literally so good. I would say it's comparable to La Fiesta in Elko.

Friday:
Friday's are always really slow because of weekly planning. Nothing really special happened to be honest.
Saturday:
We had Praylyn's baptism and it was an eventful day. We got to the church 3 hours before to start filling up the font. We set up the chairs and got everything ready. The people that were supposed to take care of the music didn't show up so I had to play the piano and it went alright. I'm just grateful I could help. That night we got a few doors slammed in our faces so that was fun.

Sunday:
We went to church and got to listen to the testimonies of the branch members and I just love them. Praylyn and her cousin even got up to say theirs and it was so special. I really felt the spirit. The lesson was on Job and how he was a good man but kept going through a lot of trials and how he stayed positive through it. This lesson was really relevant because everyone we talk to has a really hard life and are constantly going through trials. While being here I have really seen how blessed I have been in my life because of the gospel. While I still go through trials, it is still a lot easier to go through them when you rely on the Lord. I love all of you so much and hope you have the best week!!

Sooo this week has been full of change. It feels like I was in the MTC 10 years ago and to think it was only on Wednesday that I left is insane to me. Saying goodbye to my district at the MTC was one of the hardest and saddest things I have ever done. I still think about it and want to cry, lol. Anyway, traveling was kind of stressful. All of us were running on 4 hours of sleep over a couple of days so we were all dead tired. I slept a little on the plane ride which felt good, but still not enough. Once we landed in Detroit one of the A.P.'s met all of us by the baggage claim and we waited there for President Johnson, who is from Sparks.  He was picking up the Spanish speaking elders who had come in from the Mexico MTC and were at a different gate. After meeting him we all loaded into two cars and headed to the mission home. I have never been that tired in my entire life and I was falling asleep standing up. That night we had short interviews with the president and he told me I was going to be serving in Tiffin, Ohio and my trainers name is Sister Nelson.

The next day, we got ready and went to the church where we met our trainers. It was a lot to take in but I met my companion and she's really good! I am so grateful for that. We had a two-hour drive from the church to Tiffin and once we got to the apartment my companion mentioned it can be tough in Tiffin.  We have about 20 active members in the branch here and a lot of what we will be doing is working with members to get them back to church.  The apartment is very "homey”, and the kitchen is a hallway.  Not what I’m used to.  It's been interesting but it could definitely be worse. That night we sat outside and watched the sunset AND I got to see fireflies for the first time and it was amazing!! The rest of the week I've just been trying to adjust to missionary life, and it's been different and a challenge, but I know it will get better as I get to know the people. I wanted to mention Sister Nelson said we have a baptism on Saturday.  I didn’t teach her a single lesson but I’m definitely counting it!  She is 12 and I look forward to getting to know her.  We did a lot of service on Saturday. We pulled weeds for a lady who isn't a member but has parkinsons disease so we try to help wherever we can. We then went to some member’s house in the branch, and we helped to clean their house.  It was a challenge, but we had additional help with a senior couple who showed up to help cut a couch in half with a chainsaw.  That helped us get it out of the house and throw it away.

I am excited for my first P-Day in the mission.  We plan on going shopping and thrifting.

I know that the Lord wants me to be here.  I am so grateful for all the people He has put into my life as a support system. Without them it would be much tougher for me. I know He is watching over me and helping me through these first changes and challenges in my mission.  I know with time I can become stronger. I know He loves each and every one of us more than we can comprehend and if we just "hold on in His love" our struggles will be made lighter.  Sooooo much has happened, and I never know what to include and what not to include.

Trust in the Lord!!

Love,

Sister Welch
