This week has been absolutely crazyyyyyy! On Wednesday We drove to Utah and I got dropped off at the MTC at 2 p.m. It was really sad but I was distracted once I got here so that's good. I feel like so many things have happened that I don't even know where to start! I guess I'll start at the beginning haha.
When I got dropped off the missionaries took my luggage and I was brought to this room where we got our I.D card and our key for our room. I then had to wait in this huuuge line where we each waited to talk to a member of the MTC presidency. Funny enough he asked where I was from and he told me that he is really good friends with President Shumway so that was cool! After that we walked out of these doors and all the missionaries that were already here cheered for us as we walked out and it was kind of embarrassing not gonna lie lol. Anyway, they gave us a free shirt that says BYU Pathways. A sister missionary then took me to my room and I waited for about 10 minutes until Sister Parke showed up, who's not my companion but we're going to the same mission!! I met Sister Bethers and Sister Brewer after that and we were all so happy to see each other we were freaking out. As we were all talking my companion Sister Tuttle walked by and we all were just freaking out because going from just seeing faces over a screen to in person, it was kinda surreal. After that we walked to the room we have class in and the Elders were all just sitting there. We walked in and we were all shaking hands and kind of freaking out. It was so crazy seeing them in person but it was such an awesome experience. We then went to dinner and I know every person says this but I promise I have the best district ever!! I have never laughed this hard in my life and I can't believe we only have a week left together. After dinner we went to the Disciple of Jesus Christ devotional and it was soooo good.
On Thursday we had our first in person class with Brother Hawkins and he is the best! After class, we went to the MTC store and as I was standing outside of the doors, I ran into Brother and Sister Steflik who were my sophomore seminary teachers and it was crazy! I had no idea they were here and they had no idea I was here so it's been nice seeing familiar faces. That night all of the sisters in my district were just talking and laughing so hard I better have abs of steel by the end of my MTC stay hahaha. On Friday our morning class was sooo fun! The district just gets along with each other so well and we are constantly laughing but it's a good balance because they all have such good insights. I just keep thinking that it's amazing I am surrounded by people that just want to serve the Lord and this is like a once in a lifetime experience but I am so grateful I am here. Everyday at 3 we have been going to the gym to play volleyball which is awesome because I haven't played in so long and I had been missing it. I also got my first package from my brother and his family and it made me soooo happy! During companion study Sister Tuttle and I memorized 3 Nephi 5:13 AND the first vision and it was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. On Saturday the class we had in the morning is probably one of my favorite classes I have ever been to! One of the activities our teacher had us do is to write a letter to Christ as if we were alive when he was praying in the Garden of Gethsemane. We went to this building that has a "Christ Hall" and it just has huge pictures of Christ everywhere. I felt the spirit so strongly and I felt so much love and gratitude for my Savior and the sacrifice He made for me and everyone else! I've been thinking about that literally since it happened. During that same morning class we had a break so we went to the bathroom and the one we usually go to was closed for cleaning so we went to the one on the second floor. I didn't think anything of it but as I walked in there was a sister missionary I had never met before and she has the coolest red hair and I was looking at it I looked at her name tag and it said Sister Welch and we both were really confused. We then got to talking and we found out we are related because we pulled out the family tree app where you can find relatives near you and we are 3rd cousins!! It was crazy because I have never just ran into another Welch like that. On Sunday it was the craziest day of them all! We were busy the ENTIRE day. We went to church and every Sunday we had something called the Go and Do experience. It was so cool!
I have been soooo grateful for my time here at the MTC and the people in my district that the Lord has put in my life for a reason. I have been learning so much and I can't wait to share what I love with the people of Michigan. I know that the Lord knows and loves each and every one of us individually and He is aware of you! I hope all of you have the best week ever and I'm thinking about you!
Trust in the Lord.
Love,
Sister Welch <3
