Hellooo everyone!! I have kind of fallen back on journaling this week so let's see if I can remember everything ahaha. Also sorry if this is kind of long. Soooo many things happened.
Monday: On p-day this past week we had a district activity which we can have once a month so we all went out to lunch and played games and it was super fun. After the district activity me and sister Nelson and went to get ice cream and it was soooo good! We haven't stopped thinking about it all week but it was kind of pricy so we haven't gone back. That night we did a "cookie drop" at some of our friend's houses and it was pretty fun.
Tuesday: We call Tuesdays our "Fostoria days." Fostoria is one of the neighboring towns that are in our area. It's about 30ish minutes away. We started off by doing some service by just shredding a bunch of papers and sister Nelson had never shredded paper before so she got hers jammed super bad. It took her like 15 minutes just to fix it. I thought that was pretty funny. We then visited our friends Renee and Dennis and read a scripture with them and invited them to church and Renee said she wanted to come! It's always exciting when people say that. After that we went to a less active member's house the Clouse's. The husband is a professional piano player and he's crazyyyy talented. The wife is a legit opera singer. When we got there, they just played music for us the whole time and even let me play the piano while he accompanied me on the organ. It was so fun. They also just got a puppy Bernice mountain dog named Koda and he's so cute.
Wednesday: We had district council and the topic was on referrals. Because we are in a smaller area we don't really get referrals. I have never seen a referral come. We talked about what we should do when we receive a referral and to always seek and expect miracles. We had that phrase in our brains all day and later that night WE GOT A REFERRAL!! We contacted them immediately but I was looking at their address and they didn't even live in our mission boundaries so we had to send them to the mission over which was disappointing but we were still seeking and expecting miracles. After district council, we went to this cute little crepe shop and it was sooo good. I just love food. Later that night we went to our friend Bruce's house and read some scriptures and he told us he was coming to church so we were excited.
Thursday: We went and visited our friend Ana while she was babysitting her friend's kids and I thought the first time I was going to get called a bad name would be by an adult but it turns out it was a 3-year-old girl. She randomly looked at me and sister Nelson and called us not a nice name hehe. Tbh it made me giggle. We then went and did some service and we just stamped a BUNCH of boxes. We went to a member's house, the Richards, for dinner and it was this couple that is in their 80s. They are so old but I love them. Brother Richards literally can't hear pretty much at all and he just is so patient. Sister Richards LOVES to talk with her hands and while she was talking, I noticed that she's missing her whole pinky finger. I've found that that is quite common here for some reason. Most people are either missing a toe, finger, or all their teeth.
Friday: This day was insane. We had to go get the oil changed in our car as well as a tire rotation. While we were waiting, we just walked around Lowes. We just looked at the refrigerators and people looked at us funny. But as a missionary, you get used to it. That's pretty common. That night we decided to ride our bikes around town. I haven't ridden a bike since I was like 10 so I was a little nervous. We gave a book of Mormon to this guy named Charlie and he started yelling at my comp because she told him she respected him ahaha. It was very interesting. As we were riding home, we were going down a pretty big hill and we were going faassstt. Sister Nelson was in front of me and I was right behind her. We were passing houses and in between 2 houses there was a small ally. Right as sister Nelson was about to sail through it, this huge black truck comes barreling out of there and almost took my companion out. She stopped so abruptly that her tires screached and I had to swerve out of the way so I didn't hit her. As I'm writing this I am still laughing about it ahaha.
Saturday: Saturdays are another Fostoria day for us so we visited every one we did on Tuesday plus some. Before we went to one of their houses, my comp said "let me tell you something about them." She then continued to tell me that the lady used to be a stripper and has had run-ins with the law because she has a problem with stealing. She then told me that the guy has killed a man!! Mind you this was like the third or fourth time I had met with them so that was fun to learn about. While we were there, their granddaughter Kyla came out and told us she wants to be a missionary and that she wanted to come to church!
Sunday: We were expecting 4 of our friends to come to church with us so when we got there Renee and Kyla showed up. We were waiting on Chico and Bruce but Chico said he woke up with a migraine so he didn't come. The senior couple offered to give Bruce a ride since they live close to him. When they showed up. they didn't have Bruce. We were really confused and then Elder Baldwin came up to us and said he went up to his door, Bruce's sister answered and told him that Bruce went to jail on Friday!! What the heck! Anyway, after church, we knocked on some doors and it was a really fun day.
I am growing to love being a missionary! While there are hard days (and there are going to be a lot more) I just keep getting excited for the experiences I am going to have. Even the 99% of the work is rejection, that 1% that accepts it makes you forget about all the rejection. I LOVE this gospel and it has brought so much joy and comfort into my life! I hope you all have an amazing week!
Trust in the Lord
